This policy applies to version 3.0.0 and later of Similartist, provided by Shohei Komura (the “Developer”). Descriptions of features added later, such as in-app purchases and song recognition, apply to versions that include those features. This policy does not apply to version 2.x or earlier.

Similartist is an app for following related artists on Apple Music and saving the path you explore as a “Trail.” Trails are stored on your device. Using Apple Music involves communicating with Apple. To improve usability and investigate problems, the app also sends usage and diagnostic information to Google’s Firebase from the time the app launches.

Information stored on your device

The following information is stored on your device so you can revisit your discoveries and restore your settings:

The app has no feature that saves search terms themselves as a history or aggregates them on a server operated by the Developer. It also does not provide its own cloud synchronization. However, your device settings and Apple’s systems may apply to the backup and restoration of data stored on your device.

Taste Map and Trail comparisons are calculated from the Trails stored on your device. The contents of your Trails and notes are not sent to the Developer or Google for these calculations.

In-app purchase (Similartist Pro)

Version 4.0.0 and later offer “Similartist Pro,” a one-time in-app purchase that adds tools for organizing and revisiting saved Trails and changing the accent color and app icon. Purchases and restorations are handled through Apple’s in-app purchase system (StoreKit). The Developer does not receive from Apple the name, Apple Account, credit card number, or other payment information used to make a purchase.

To check your purchase status and determine which features are available to you, the app obtains the product ID, transaction ID, purchase date and time, and information about purchase revocation from Apple.

For usage analysis, the app sends custom events to Google Analytics for Firebase when you open the purchase screen and to record the results of purchase and restore actions, such as success, cancellation, pending approval, or failure. These events are associated with an identifier that distinguishes app installations, and successful purchases and restorations are recorded as information about the purchase of Pro. These custom events do not include the product ID, amount, transaction ID, or Apple Account. Usage and device information that Firebase collects automatically is described separately in “Usage analysis and crash investigation” below.

Apple Music search, previews, playback, playlist creation, saving, listing, and deleting Trails, song recognition, exploration starting from the currently playing song, and switching themes are free regardless of whether you have purchased Pro. Changes to your purchase status, such as a refund, do not delete the Trails, tags, notes, or collections stored on your device.

Apple Music integration

With your permission, the app checks your Apple Music access authorization, subscription status, and whether your cloud music library is available. When searching or retrieving information, the app sends search terms, artist and song identifiers, and similar information to Apple’s services.
